TV

I admit it. I now use the TV on a regular basis to pacify my son so I can do things like cook, laundry, and occasionally sleep. Yes I know the daily allowance for TV should be no more than 30 minutes to an hour. I fully admit that LB gets more than that on the weekends. This past Saturday morning, we had him watching a movie at 6:30 in the morning in our bed, so that Mike and I could get a few more minutes of sleep before the baby got up. Because he had already watched over an hour of TV, I had asked Mike not to let him watch anymore. Mike shut it off, and went to get a shower. I had Little Miss and was putting away laundry and Mike was in the shower. I thought LB was with him. No. He wasn't. Mike went downstairs, to find that he had turned back on the TV (which was already on Disney) watching the Little Einsteins. Mike went to turn it off. LB looked at his father, and said: "No! My Einsteins!" and continued to watch his program. We've created a monster. At least when the show was over, he willing shut off the TV to play with his play dough.

Just remember... TV really IS or at least 'Can be' educational. I don't think it's so bad. It's like teleconferencing for school. Right? Especially the little kid programs now. They gear them for preschool learning, which is why Kindergarteners are expected to know so much more these days. So much for learning to spell your own name. Now they write life journals!

No kidding! I'm to have my 4 year olds learning site words. We have a list of 35. I didn't learn to read until I was 6! Now I'm expected to have my kiddos reading or at least almost reading when they leave me in June.

Oh... don't feel bad. I let Owen watch TV when I need him to leave me alone just so I can take care of Ana or get stuff done. That happens daily! He even knows how to get to Tivo's recorded list! It's a real lifesaver for me so I don't always feel to bad about how much he watches. A lot of times he gets bored anyway and ends up playing with his toys, or makes a mess, or terrorizes the dog. I'll worry more if my kid shows more of an interest than I like towards video games like his dad. I'm what you might call a Gamer Widow and I don't recommend it and I'll be pissed if Owen heads down that path too.

I totally understand.. Mike USED to be really bad about the video games. When Thomas got the X-Box 360 for his birthday I thought I'd never see my husband again. Luckily though, we have been so busy, he doesn't spend nearly as much time as I'm sure he would like playing!

OK.....Maybe Thomas will learn to trade Dad Xbox time for TV.....
